I did it!
Here it is, dear readers, the last day of the month and I’ve reached and surpassed the NaNoWriMo goal with the afternoon and evening still ahead of me!
Woohoo!
I’m so excited and proud of myself. I have never written this many words on one story or topic before. What this means is that I can write a novel. If I set the goal and work to accomplish it (i.e. ignore household chores, and let friends and family fall to the wayside) I too can write a novel in as little as one month. And that gives me hope. The story that I didn’t write this month, the SciFi piece I mentioned on the “about” page, the one that intimidates me, yeah that one, that one’s going to be next.
I’ll continue to write this story today, then put it aside before I work on the yawning process of revision. But, hey, if I can write over 50,000 words in one month, I surely can engage in the revision process.
Thank you, dear readers, for your support! It has helped me get through this month, has bolstered my flagging enthusiasm for the project (the inner critic is a screaming drunk banshee) and my belief in myself as a writer.
Writing need not be so solitary after all. 🙂
Which is good, because I have more stories to write and discover, and that aforementioned revising will need tending to… and the SciFi novel… so just because it’s the end of November doesn’t mean I won’t have more to share. You’ll want to know how much that SciFi story kicks my ass, won’t you? And how the story and I make up and how we become friends… you want to know what the writer can learn from the story, as do I…
I’m still recuperating from this whirlwind month, but will collect my thoughts on what I have learned from my first NaNoWriMo and share them with you.
